Customize your iPhone, show your national pride

UPDATE: I forgot to re-size the hi-res icons… it’s fixed now and should display properly on your phone.

If you have a jailbreaked iPhone, you can do some basic customisation of it if you are careful.

Following on from our OS X menu flag mod, we thought you might like to fly your flag on the iPhone.

Like so…

You can see that I have modified the iPhone Phone app icon to include the South African flag.

I have four flags available that you could download and use. (UPDATE: Due to comment requests I have added Bahrain, German, Canada, Ireland and Phillipines flag with iPod icon.)

You need to save the flag you want to your desktop (right-click and “Save As” from the contextual menu) or wherever you can find it again- and then rename it to icon.png

Once you have done that, you will need to connect to your iPhone using the client of your choice and place icon.png into /Applications/MobilePhone.app/

You will be asked if you want to replace the existing icon.png – just say yes and restart your phone. And presto – your flag is flying on your iPhone dock.

I won’t go into how you connect to your iPhone to place files on it – there are many, many tutorials on the net – see here for some good ones

We have started by making available four flags for you – the UK, USA, France and our home country, South Africa. Please feel free to request your country in the comments and then check back to pick it up when it’s done.
